Learning to play an instrument is a process that can address the development and fulfillment of the whole person. A good music lesson can be just as much about offering technical guidance and theoretical understanding, as it can be about guiding a student through the inner challenges of working skillfully with attention and emotion. I aim to create an environment where the student feels supported in meeting the challenges of learning an instrument, whatever domain they happen to arise in.
I work collaboratively with students to identify goals that are relevant, appropriate, and exciting, and then we formulate a plan to move toward those goals. Along the way I will support the student with practice plans and strategies, technical guidance, kindness, encouragement, and a non-judgmental space to work on building their skills, wherever they happen to be starting from. Though learning an instrument can be challenging, it is also immensely rewarding and a lot of fun!
